Cresswell turned down the offer of a new deal at Prenton Park

Ipswich Town have signed Tranmere defender Aaron Cresswell on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old had come to the end of his Rovers contract but, because he is under 24, the Suffolk side will have to pay compensation.

Cresswell has made 79 appearances for Tranmere since coming through the Prenton Park academy ranks.

"He might not get people off their seats but he's a decent player," boss Paul Jewell told 91热爆 Radio Suffolk.

"We've bought potential and he has a great left foot."

The left-back told : "It was the easiest decision ever to come here.

"I enjoyed my time at Tranmere and it will be hard to leave home, but joining Ipswich is something else.

"It's a big club and it's a big step up for me, but I'm delighted to have the opportunity to take it."

Cresswell, who was reportedly linked to a host of Championship sides including West Brom, becomes Town boss Paul Jewell's fourth signing of the season after Michael Chopra.
