Northern Ireland's record goalscorer David Healy is staying with Rangers for the 2011-12 season after agreeing a one-year contract extension.

Healy had an injury-interrupted spell at Ibrox after joining the Scottish Premier League champions on a six-month deal from Sunderland in January 2011.

The 31-year-old hopes club success will lead to a Northern Ireland recall.

Healy was not in Nigel Worthington's squad for the Nations Cup games against the Republic of Ireland and Wales.

Healy had repeatedly said he was always available for Northern Ireland and was keen to continue his international career.

"Joining Rangers was a huge honour and it was great to finish the season on a high by getting the double," Healy told the Rangers website.

"I have spoken to the manager about how I maybe did not get as many matches as I would have hoped for.

"Hopefully I will be coming in fresh after pre-season and I can bring something to the team."
