Torquay United have added midfielder Chris McPhee and defender Daniel Leadbitter to their squad.

McPhee, 28, joins the Gulls from Kidderminster Harriers on a two-year deal, having previously spent 12 months at Plainmoor in 2006-7.

Leadbitter arrives in Devon from Newcastle United where he was a product of the youth academy and more recently a regular member of the reserves.

The 20-year-old has also penned a two-year contract at Plainmoor.

New manager Martin Ling said: "Daniel had his education in four years at Newcastle and he needs to now go out and learn the game, and that's what we will teach him.

"He's not played League football yet, so he has to take a step up because there is a big difference in playing for the reserves to Torquay United's first-team.

"I'm confident he can do the job and I'm very comfortable in my decision to bring him here."

McPhee returns to Devon on the back of a two-year spell with Kidderminster, where he scored 34 goals in 110 appearances.

"Chris is a very versatile player and in the four games he played against me when I was at Cambridge, he was probably the best player in three of them.

"He has England caps at non-League level, playing twice at right-back and once at centre-back, so his versatility is massive."

McPhee and Leadbitter take Torquay's tally of new signings up to three, at Plainmoor.
