Green reportedly asked not to be considered for the Switzerland game

West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green has been called into the England squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland on 4 June.

The 31-year-old replaces Fulham's David Stockdale, who is getting married the day before the Wembley match.

Stockdale is believed to have told England's management he was still willing to join up with the squad.

But coach Fabio Capello instead opted to call up Green, who reportedly originally asked not to be considered.

Green is likely to be third choice for the Switzerland game, behind Manchester City's Joe Hart and Scott Carson of West Bromwich Albion.

The 28-year-old, who had been second choice behind Manchester City's Joe Hart following last year's World Cup in South Africa, cited "niggling injuries" and a desire to prolong his club career as the reasons for his decision.

Stockdale was first called up by Capello for February's , but was an unused substitute for the game.

He has made 10 appearances for Fulham this season, although his last game for Mark Hughes's side was the , with Mark Schwarzer the Cottagers' first-choice keeper since then.
