Michael van Gerwen booked his place in the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship with a 5-3 victory over Mark Webster at the Alexandra Palace.

The 24-year-old Dutchman took the first three sets but Welshman Webster fought back to come within a set at 4-3 before Van Gerwen finished it in the eighth.

Van Gerwen, beaten by Phil Taylor in last year's final, will face England's Adrian Lewis in Monday's semi-final.

Lewis comfortably moved into the last four with a 5-1 win over James Wade.

Van Gerwen said he was far from his best against Webster, who had knocked out five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld in the previous round.

"My start to the game was brilliant and everything felt so easy when I was three-nil up," Van Gerwen told Sky Sports.

"At the end I didn't play well at all. I was too confident and I lost focus and concentration.

"I didn't play well after that. I'm not happy with it at all. The last couple of sets I played absolutely rubbish. It's something to practice on, but I'm not happy with my game at the moment."

The other semi-final sees Australia's Simon Whitlock take on Peter Wright of Scotland.
