Lancashire and England fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has signed a new three-year white-ball contract to remain with the club to the end of the 2027 season.

Mahmood, 27, returned from two serious back injuries to feature in nine T20 Blast matches for the county this summer and took 12 wickets as Lancashire reached the quarter-final stage.

His new deal means he will continue his association with the Blast, while there is a further option to play in red-ball cricket "subject to availability and selection".

He said: “2022 and 2023 were both difficult years for me injury-wise, but it was brilliant to get through this summer fully fit.

"I’d like to thank the medical team at Lancashire for their hard work throughout this period and having their continued support was a key factor in signing this new contract."

The seamer missed much of the two previous seasons with a stress fracture in his back but made his return to international duty by receiving a call-up to England's one-day international squad to face Australia in September.

He has has played 24 games for the national team across all formats, including two Test matches.

“While this is a white-ball contract, I still have an ambition to play red-ball cricket for England again and for Lancashire in the County Championship, which is still the biggest test of skill and fitness outside of Test match cricket, and there are options within this contract for that to happen," he added.
