Rory Kleinveldt prospered between rain breaks as Glamorgan struggled against Northants at Wantage Road.
South African paceman Kleinveldt took 5-53 while Mark Wallace (27) retired hurt with a calf injury.
Colin Ingram and Aneurin Donald both fell cheaply before Graham Wagg made a first-ball duck.
But all-rounder David Lloyd held the innings together with an unbeaten 64 before bad light ended play early with Glamorgan on 166-6.
It only took Lloyd 49 balls to reach his third half-century of the season, although he had a stroke of luck on 45 when Rob Newton dropped him at short cover.
Richard Gleeson was the unlucky bowler, and he is still waiting for his first wicket in his Championship debut appearance.
Craig Meschede was the last batsman to go before the close, caught by Kleinveldt off Olly Stone for 17.
Glamorgan wicketkeeper Mark Wallace told 91热爆 Wales Sport:
"I've pulled or torn a calf, not a great day for me after I got a heavy blow in the box.
"I'm probably due an injury to be fair and I think I'm struggling for the next game realistically.
"I would have taken 230 (Championship) games in a row when I got called up to go to Maidstone in 2001, so I can't grumble.
"I think we've actually done pretty well today, it's been a tough wicket to bat on and tough conditions. I thought David Lloyd played fantastically, an innings of real maturity."
