Alasdair Evans' five wickets were not enough as Scotland fell 32 runs short in their World Twenty20 qualifier against the Netherlands at the Grange.

The Dutch had lost their opening Group B game to Afghanistan, while the Scots had beaten United Arab Emirates.

But Wesley Barresi's 75 and Peter Borren's 57 helped the Dutch make 191-6 from their 20 overs.

And, despite a fine 68 not out from captain Preston Mommsen, the Scots were all out for 159.

Evans was named man of the match after returning career-best figures of 5-24, but his bowling could not prevent the Dutch taking control of the match in Edinburgh.

Opener Barresi cracked 75 from 40 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes, and Borren ensured that early impetus was not lost as Scotland struggled to contain the run rate despite Evans' five-wicket haul.

Borren struck six fours and three sixes in a 28-ball 57 before a useful cameo from ex-South Africa spinner Roelof van der Merwe - 24 from 18 balls - took the Dutch to their imposing total.

Scotland openers George Munsey, who was run out, and Kyle Coetzer fell inside the first two overs and Scotland's cause was undone as wickets fell at regular intervals, the home side slipping to 79-7 in the 12th over.

Mommsen's unbeaten 68 came from 44 balls, but Mudassar Bukhari (3-22), Pieter Seelaar (2-19) and Van der Merwe (2-22) ensured the Dutch victory.

Scotland next meet Afghanistan, who top Group B after beating UAE, on Sunday.

Kenya also have two victories after their win over Canada on Saturday.
