England and Warwickshire bowler Chris Woakes has had keyhole surgery on a knee injury and will be out for a further four to six weeks.

described the procedure to repair a meniscal tear as "uncomplicated".

The knee tear occurred during Woakes' rehab on a foot injury that caused him to miss England's Caribbean tour.

He had been expected to be available when England take on New Zealand in a two-match home Test series in May.

But the 26-year-old will now almost certainly miss the contests with the Kiwis at Lord's on 21 May and Headingley on 29 May.

A five-match one-day international series follows, starting on 9 June.

Woakes has played in four Tests and six Twenty20s for England, but he has mainly featured in one-day internationals, in which he has taken 47 wickets at an economy rate of 5.96, in 34 matches.
