Intercontinental Cup, Deventer (day three of four):

Ireland 332 & 228-8 dec beat Netherlands 148 & 127 by 279 runs

Ireland secured a place in the final of the ICC Intercontinental Cup in December by romping to a 279-run win over the Netherlands with more than a day to spare on Wednesday.

Chasing an unlikely 407 for victory, the Dutch were skittled out for 127 in their second innings.

Somerset spinner George Dockrell did most of the bowling damage for Ireland by producing figures of 6-39.

Earlier, Ireland had declared on 222-8 with Andrew White top-scoring on 62.

With John Mooney contributing 45 and Stuart Poynter finishing on 35, the Irish added 154 runs to the overnight total of 68-4 before Kevin O'Brien's declaration after they had pushed their advantage beyond 400.

Prior to Dockrell's wickets, paceman Max Sorensen produced an early salvage as he finished with figures of 3-32.

Ireland will now switch their focus to the crucial World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands on Sunday and Tuesday.

Wins in those two games will guarantee the Irish a place at the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand with several other qualifiers still to play.
