County Championship Division Two, Worcester

Close, day two: Worcestershire 505-7 dec, Glamorgan 164-5

Worcestershire 4pts, Glamorgan 1pt

Moeen Ali hit a career-best 250 as Worcestershire steered themselves into a winning position against Glamorgan on the second day at New Road.

Resuming on 155 out of his side's overnight 322-3, Moeen got good support from Ben Cox (40) and Jack Shantry (32) as Worcestershire declared on 505-7.

Shantry and Alan Richardson then claimed two wickets apiece.

But Jim Allenby led the Glamorgan rearguard, reaching the close on 56, to help his side make 164-5.

At the halfway stage of this game, that leaves Glamorgan still needing 142 runs on day three to avoid the threat of being asked to follow on.

But Allenby and wicketkeeper Mark Wallace look well set, having so far put on 66 for the sixth wicket.

91热爆 Hereford & Worcester's Dave Bradley:

"One of Worcestershire's best days of the season, on a pitch that still favours the batsmen, as Moeen Ali proved, batting better on the second day than he did on the first.

"Ben Cox, given a rare Championship start, took his chance with 40 useful runs and two decent catches.

"Dean Cosker ended with four wickets, posing the question as to why he had not bowled more overs.

"Worcestershire then got more out of the wicket than the Glamorgan medium-pacers, but there's a long way to go and wickets will have to be whittled out on this surface."
