Glamorgan produced a determined batting display on day two against Hampshire but had to settle for a narrow first-innings lead at the Ageas Bowl.

William Bragg (73) and Marcus North (70) were the main contributors to the Welsh county's total of 327.

With no-one able to go on and play a major innings, they passed Hampshire's first-innings total by just nine runs.

David Balcombe (4-91) and James Tomlinson (3-60) bowled well for the home side, who were 25-0 at stumps.

Bragg and North shared a third-wicket partnership of 96 in Glamorgan's innings before Balcombe ended it by having the former caught behind.

He later bowled former Australia Test player North and the visitors were grateful for Dean Cosker's 40 not out off 38 balls, featuring seven boundaries, as they put their noses briefly in front.

"This was easily Glamorgan's best batting performance of the season and they gained an 11-run first innings lead and a welcome three batting bonus points.

"The key partnership came between Will Bragg and Marcus North, who put on 96 for the third wicket - both batsmen scoring half centuries in successive games, on a pitch that continued to give plenty of assistance to the seamers.

"Glamorgan's priority will be to take early wickets and that their young seamers can emulate their credible performance in the Hampshire first innings."
