Luke Wells vital to Sussex hopes of winning at Surrey
Sussex will be relying on Luke Wells if they are to claim a victory in their County Championship clash at Surrey.
Wells will begin the final day on 96, with his side on 240-8, needing another 102 to reach the winning total of 342.
Surrey began day three looking well placed on 250-8 and they reached 273 with James Anyon taking the last wicket to end with bowling figures of 5-79.
The hosts appeared to be in charge as Sussex were reduced to 40-3 early on before Wells kept Sussex in contention.
VIEW FROM THE COMMENTARY BOX:
91热爆 Sussex's Adrian Harms:
"Despite the floodlights shining brightly, play was ridiculously called off for bad light at 1840 BST, which means everyone will be heading back to The Oval tomorrow.
"The cricket authorities need to explain the ruling for playing under floodlights in clear and concise terms as the players looked confused, let alone the paying spectators, most of whom will surely not return in the morning.
"On the field Surrey will be disappointed not to have wrapped this up today, particularly with an uncertain weather forecast tomorrow.
"However 21-year-old Luke Wells coming in at number three showed determination and immense concentration as wickets tumbled around him to hold the Sussex innings together, and he returns in the morning needing just four more runs to complete a fourth first-class century.
"Surrey remain firm favourites to win this game, but if Wells continues to bat with the resolve he showed today who knows what might happen?"
