Derbyshire chairman Chris Grant is thrilled wicketkeeper Tom Poynton has become the third academy player to sign a professional deal in the past month.
The 21-year-old has signed for three years and follows both and in committing his future.
Grant said: "The policy of backing our home-grown cricketers continues and we are delighted.
"Tom couldn't wish for two better mentors than Karl Krikken and Luke Sutton when it comes to wicketkeeping."
Poynton made his first-class debut as a 17-year-old in 2007 prior to winning England Under-19's recognition in 2008 and 2009.
Derbyshire head coach Kark Krikken said: "He is very natural with the gloves and an impressive stroke-maker with the bat.
"He is currently learning a lot from Luke Sutton and we see him as Luke's natural successor behind the stumps."
