England's Nicola Adams guaranteed herself at least a silver medal as she powered into the flyweight (51kg) final at the European Women's Championships.

Adams, who is part of GB Boxing's Olympic squad, won her semi-final 15-11 against Bulgarian Stoyka Petrova.

Fellow Olympic hopes Natasha Jonas and Savannah Marshall had to settle for bronze medals.

England's Lisa Whiteside and Lynsey Holdaway of Wales made finals at non-Olympic weights.

Holdaway beat Romanian Steluta Duta 16-11 to reach the 48kg final, and Whiteside beat Malkoc Nagehan of Turkey 20-10 to reach the featherweight (57kg) final.

Adams told after her victory: "I want to improve on my silver medal from 2007. The training that we're doing now is really working, it's putting us at the top of the table."

The three Olympic weight categories in women's boxing are flyweight, middleweight and lightweight. Six boxers travelled to Rotterdam representing England and .

Jonas took light-welterweight (64kg) bronze with a desperately close 12-11 loss to Turkey's Gulsum Tatar, while Marshall lost 15-7 to Nouchka Fontijn of the Netherlands.

Katie Taylor (60kg) of Ireland had a comfortable 25-11 win over Sweden's Helena Falk, while welterweight Lauren Price of Wales lost her semi-final in the 69kg category 17-7 to the experienced Ukrainian Mariia Badulina.

Despite the loss Price picked up Wales' first medal at a senior major tournament.
