Interview: Michael Parkinson

The South Yorkshire TV star is calling it a day having been one of the most famous talk show hosts in the world with 36 years of fame as 'Parky'. We speak with Cudworth's favourite son and take a trip down memory lane.

In March 1935 Michael Parkinson was born the son of a miner in Cudworth, near Barnsley. Parky as he's known wasn't looking to join his father in the mines but was keen to strap on the cricket pads and bat for his beloved Yorkshire CCC.

Parky then took the route of the journalist, working up from local papers to the national press, and moving into the growing market that was television in the 1960s.

That move led to Parky establishing himself as one of, if not the most well known chat show host in TV history. But in December 2007, he signed off with his last show. We spoke with the Barnsley legend to dip into his 36 years of television memories. Select the links below to take a closer look at each period in Parkinson's career and get an insight into his life. You can also see pictures of him and some of his famous guests.
