Six foot monsters are set to return to Weston-super-Mare this summer as sand sculptures make a welcome return. Sculptors from the World Sand Sculpting Academy (WSSA) will take two weeks creating the artwork at the end of June which will then be on display near the Seaquarium until September. "The sand is great to work with and we always receive a warm welcome and a great response to our work in Weston," said Marcel Elsjan of Wipper, chief executive officer of the WSSA. World champion sculptor Nicola Wood returns as does Leonardo who created the popular Rapunzel sculpture.听 Last year's display was based on fairy tales while 2006 saw King Kong grace the sands. The cost of putting on the display has risen sharply over the years from 拢11k to 拢35k, mainly due to extra security being needed as King Kong was destroyed by revelers had to be re-built.
