Colour wheels are used by most people who use colour in their work, from painters and gardeners to clothes designers and advertising companies.

Colours opposite each other on the wheel can be used together to create a strong, contrasting effect. Using the colours sitting next to one another creates a more gentle effect.

Colours can also be used to communicate a feeling. Different colours mean different things to us. Think about adverts on television and in magazines- what do the colours say to you?
