Connecting in a Crisis

Broadcasters continue to play an important role in communications during a crisis

In moments of crisis, audiences in the UK and across the world turn to the 91Èȱ¬ for our trusted coverage and analysis, with over 450m people turning to use the 91Èȱ¬â€™s news services across all platforms every week.

The 91Èȱ¬'s role in providing public information that is fair, accurate and impartial is further amplified now more than ever. As part of our Royal Charter agreement, we invest in our own broadcast resilience and business continuity planning to ensure we can continue to provide potentially life-saving information that local communities rely upon in an emergency situation.

In the UK, the 91Èȱ¬ provides six national radio stations as well as 40 local radio stations in England and radio output from across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our networks are able to harness the unique power of live audio across music, breaking news, live sport and major events, creating shared moments that provide companionship and a sense of community for audiences.

Local radio and news services have a special role in crisis communications and emergency preparedness, we are uniquely positioned to support the UK's emergency responder community in communicating relevant risk information to the public.

The importance of building trusted local relationships with our Local Resilience Forums to support local communities cannot be overestimated, our ‘connecting in a crisis’ banner aims to help foster those working relationships with our Editorial Leads.
