Is dementia getting the priority it deserves? 14ÌýJan 2008
Hands
What needs to be done to support dementia patients and their carers?

700,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with dementia; two thirds live at home, many relying on a close family member for their care. For years campaigners have argued that the condition is at the bottom of health and social care pile. However, the Government is now working on the first ever national dementia strategy. So is itÌýgetting the priority it deserves? Jane talks to Barbara Pointon, whose husband Malcolm died after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Dawn Warwick of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services and Professor Sube Banerjee, who is leading the development of the government’s new strategy on dementia.
