The House of Lords Appointments Commission is instructed by the Prime Minister to: "find people of distinction who would bring authority and expertise to the House of Lords". With your co-operation we're going to suggest a candidate of our own.
Here's how it works:
You, the listeners, nominate would-be peers using the online form below. Like the House of Lords Appointments Commission itself we're looking for candidates who can:
The nominations stage will close at 0930 on 23 December.
A panel of working peers and Today's editor will then draw up a shortlist of the five best candidates. These will be chosen on merit.
The shortlist will be announced on 27 December. You can then vote for who you think is the best candidate.
The vote closes at midday on 31 December and the winner will be announced on 3 January 2005.
At that point our winning candidate's nomination will be put forward to the House of Lords Appointments Commission where it will be considered along with other nominations the Commission receives.
