Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
Although tens of thousands of protestors surrounded Madison Square Gardens, the Republican conventionbegan with great fanfare and key note speeches from President George Bush’s family and the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

One the first night of the convention, former Mayor of New York City, Rudolph Giuliani urged Americans to vote for a President that was a strong leader, who stood by his decision and never backed down. This sentiment was echoed by Senator John McCain.

The second night was more of a star studded affair with a rousing speech from former Hollywood actor and now Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. President Bush was then introduced onto the podium by his twin daughter's Barbara and Jenna, before he invited his wife, Laura, to give her key note speech.

Arnold Schwarzenegger urged America to back a true leader and told of his love for the country. In his passionate speech, which was full of energy, he used his famous line from his Hollywood career, saying, “Ladies and Gentlemen, America is back.”

He followed this with, “Back from the attack on our homeland, back from the attack on our economy, back from the attack on our way of life,"

"We're back because of the perseverance, character and leadership of the 43rd president of the United States - George W Bush."

Laura, Barbara and Jenna all praised Mr Bush for being a strong father figure and spoke of the softer side of the President.
Laura said he was “a little greyer" but remained the same person she married three months after meeting him at a barbecue.
