SSRIs
Do the new wave of anti-depressants SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) increase the risk of suicide? These drugs, which include Prozac and Seroxat, were hailed the wonder drugs of the 1990s; however, increasingly, they have been surrounded by controversy. In America they have to carry warnings about increased risk of suicide. If this is the case, why don't they carry that warning in this country? Dr David Healy, Consultant Psychiatrist from North Wales, debates the issue with ProfessorÌýRobert KerwinÌýfrom the Institute of Psychiatry.
If you are taking any anti-depressants do not change your medication without consulting your doctor first.

Friendly Spider Programme
Dr Raj Persaud goes to London Zoo with Sally Braben, an arachnophobe, to see if their 'Friendly Spider Programme' can cure her. It's a course which uses a mixture of factual information about spiders and group therapy sessions to treat people petrified of spiders. Raj meets Paul Pearce Kelly, Curator of Invertebrates and gets to hold a huge beast called a Mexican Bird Eating Spider.

New Addictions
Are new addictions like internet addiction disorder and compulsive shopping genuine or are they merely bad habits caused by a lack of willpower? One in three of us will suffer from an addiction at some point during our lives. The most common addictions are to nicotine, alcohol or drugs. However, as society evolves new addictions develop. Dr Adrienne Baker, Psychotherapist and author of Serious Shopping (Free Association Books, 2000) and Professor Mark Griffiths, an expert on addiction from Nottingham Trent University discuss these phenomena.
