JMW TURNER
Front Row goes on the trail of the artist JMW Turner looking at his paintings of seascapes, his images of Venice by moonlight and some of the castles and canals owned by his patrons as four exhibitions in Birmingham, Manchester and London celebrate his art. Art Critic Richard Cook and Turner Curator Ian Warrell join Mark Lawson to discuss.

"Turner's Britain-Vision of a Nation" is on at the Gas Hall in Birmingham from tomorrow until February 8th 2004
Down the road at the Barber Institute at the University of Birmingham is a smaller show "The Sun Rising Through Vapour: Turner's Early Seascapes" - on until January 25th 2004
"Turner: The Late Seascapes" is on at Manchester Art Gallery until January 25th 2004
"Turner and Venice" is on in London at Tate Britain until January 11th 2004.

SHELL SCULPTURE
Maggi Hambling鈥檚 giant shell sculpture, built to honour Composer Benjamin Britten, is now installed on Aldeburgh beach in Suffolk where Britten used to live. John Wilson went to find out what the local community thinks of it.
Maggi Hambling's giant scallop shell sculpture will be unveiled by the former Culture Secretary Chris Smith at noon this Saturday.
