In this special edition of TIA, DJ Edu travels to Casablanca to check out the vibrant rap scene there.
Hip-hop in Morocco has been getting bigger and bigger. In the last three years, there have been more and more artists getting eye-watering numbers on the socials for their songs, and these songs are winning fans way beyond Morocco itself. There seems to be an openness to other parts of the world, including the rest of Africa, with more collaborations, and a strong sense of Moroccan pride, throwing off a colonial mentality.
Rappers are speaking out about social inequalities and giving vent to the frustrations and experiences of young Moroccans, but they鈥檙e also being more accepted in the mainstream.
DJ Edu meets up and coming rappers Super Rays and Minerva, checks out a performance by Khtek, the hottest female rapper of the moment, and catches up with Dizzy DROS, one of the OGs of Moroccan rap, on the set of the video shoot for the song he co-wrote for Morocco鈥檚 football team competing at the recent Women鈥檚 World Cup.
