Dre-A and Bobo We
DJ Edu meets Dre-A and Bobo We, two young rappers from Francophone west Africa who are winning fans and awards.
Dre-A is determined to prove that Ivorian rap is not a boy’s school - that’s the English translation of the title of her debut EP. The self-styled girly girl made her name with punchy freestyles and caught the eye of Sony Music, who signed her in 2021.
Bobo We, from Benin, is a rapper who started by drumming and now blends traditional drumming and hiphop – he calls his sound gangan-trap. It’s working for him because he’s had great success at home, winning best emerging artist, best artist of the year, and best rap single in national competitions.
