A Family Affair: A hand-me-down recipe made me a cookery star
Elizabeth Chong became a household name sharing her family's recipes and stories, transforming the reputation of Chinese food and culture in Australia.
In Australia, Elizabeth Chong is a household name. She's a celebrity chef and has done more than anyone – except possibly her father – to popularise Chinese cuisine. In her cookery classes and then on TV she would share her family's recipes and stories and won millions of fans, both among native-born Australians and newly-arrived South East Asian immigrants. And yet Elizabeth nearly wasn't allowed into Australia at all. (First broadcast in May 2022).
