US Indigenous Peoples' Day On The World Service

Iona Hampson and Peter Goffin look at Indigenous and tribal peoples around the world.

This 91热爆 World Service special, presented by Iona Hampson and Peter Goffin, looks at Indigenous and tribal peoples around the world, the challenges they face as a result of racism, colonialism and disenfranchisement and - above all else - the activists, leaders and artists working to protect, preserve or improve their communities. The US marks Indigenous Peoples' Day in the second week of October, and we'll hear from several Native American listeners describing what they believe to be the most important issues in their communities. We'll also speak to a member of the Guajajara Guardians, who defend the Amazon rainforest from illegal logging in Brazil; a First Nation in Canada that's building a new reserve in one of the country's biggest cities; Native American chefs that are bringing traditional foods to the modern restaurant scene; a pop star who tops the charts in New Zealand with songs that feature lyrics in Maori; and more.
