The President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, focussed on the unfolding energy crisis in Europe. She said the EU was committed to protecting citizens and business from soaring costs, and called for cuts to electricity use and windfall taxes on energy firms. And could the card payments market soon be welcoming new players to operate alongside Visa and Mastercard? More than 1,600 merchants in the US have asked for legislation to be passed that could see other operators enter the industry - and potentially reduce processing fees.
