How to protect yourself against landline switch-off scammers
Traditional UK landlines are being switched off by 2027, as the phone network goes digital and the copper wire system is retired - but scammers are using it as an opportunity to exploit people for money. A fresh warning from consumer group, Which?, says that residents are being targeted with cold calls, from con artists pretending to be engineers from BT, stating that they need to confirm their personal and payment information so their landline can go digital before a January 2025 deadline. Former detective Rav Wilding explains how the real deadline has actually been extended to 2027, and why you'll never need to pay to get your phone transferred. Plus, a reminder that scammers may know your name and address, and will use it to try and get you to trust them.
