North Yorkshire mum 'failed by mental health services'

Lucy Pearson from North Yorkshire took her own life after suffering from postnatal depression for the second time. Her family say she was failed by mental health services despite their cries for help.

The Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust where Lucy was treated say they are looking closely at Lucy’s death and will establish if there is anything they could have done to prevent it.

The Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board who commission the service said it is not appropriate to comment while an internal review is underway and it is for an inquest to determine the circumstances of Lucy’s death.

The government says specialist perinatal mental health services are in place across England, but more needs to be done – and they are reforming the Mental Health Act to fix the broken system.
