Wales and West Utilities, which is responsible for the work, has been asked for a comment on these concerns but 91热爆 Radio Cornwall are still waiting for a response.

However at the beginning of October the company said the work was essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to homes and businesses. Barring any engineering difficulties, the utility company said the work was scheduled to be completed in December. Project manager Abby Smith said: "We know that working in areas like this is not ideal but it really is essential."

Cornwall Council sent a statement:

"As the highway authority, Cornwall Council receives more than 40,000 requests each year (almost 150 requests each day of the working week) from companies seeking to work on Council-owned roads to access pipes and cables running under streets or to carry out work on the surface itself.

Under law, the Council cannot refuse consent to a statutory undertaker (such as a utility company) to dig up the road. Under the New Roads and Street Works Act, statutory undertakers have a legal right to maintain their existing underground network or install new pipes and cables".
