Billy Monger to take on charity Ironman challenge

A former racing driver who was involved in a life-changing accident in Leicestershire is hoping to become the youngest double amputee to complete the legendary Ironman World Championships.

Billy Monger had both legs amputated after a near-fatal crash in 2017 at the Donington Park racing circuit. Since his accident, Billy has raised more than 拢3million for the charity Comic Relief.

His latest extreme challenge, to complete the annual Ironman World Championship in Hawaii in October, will also raise funds for the charity. The event is widely considered to be the ultimate test of human endurance, and would see Mr Monger swim, cycle and run a combined total of 140.6 miles (226km) in a single day.

Billy explains to Ady Dayman why he wanted to take on the challenge.
