Why is the A39 closed through Camelford?
The road through the town has been closed because of a building on the narrow part of Fore Street on the A39. The owner has now added concrete lintels and block work to shore up the front of the former shop but business owners are worried people won't bother making the five mile diversion just to come into the town.
Cornwall Council says it's working with the property owner, who is responsible for making the building safe, to make sure this work is completed as soon as possible. It says the road will remain closed until it is satisfied that the property is in a safe condition and is of no risk to the general public. The Council says all road signing will be subject to review and regular social media updates on progress will be provided.
