According to the latest census data - one in ten households in England and Wales have people from two or more different ethnic groups.
For children of mixed-heritage homes, there can often be a conflict between how they feel, and how they are viewed by the rest of the world.
For Alice Marsh - growing up in Ipswich with a white-British father and a Japanese mother, it was an issue she's always wanted to explore.
Alice is now a student journalist and has been speaking to Jon Wright about a podcast she's made all about it.
