‘It was like taking off’ – former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo on the joy of scoring goals again
The FA Cup winner is back scoring goals in Armenia after 20 months without a club.
Former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo was without a club for 20 months, but he’s now back on the pitch for Armenian Premier League champions FC Urartu and he’s rediscovered the joy of scoring again.
Ten years ago, the French striker had just been nominated for the European Golden Boy award, won the Under-20 World Cup with France and secured a dream move to Arsenal.
He made 20 appearances for Arsenal – including winning the 2014 FA Cup – before spending three years at French club Toulouse.
But, after his short spell at Championship club Huddersfield Town came to an end in May 2021, he was without a club until he signed for FC Urartu in January 2023.
He tells Sport Today’s John Bennett how he’s delighted to be back playing and scoring again, and how he was surprised when he found out how Arsenal fans look back on his role in their FA Cup final win in 2014.
