Palestinians “fed up with occupation”

The Palestinian Authority has been “too passive”, says Mustafa Barghouti

Palestinians are “fed up with occupation”, says Palestinian legislative council member and former Presidential candidate Mustafa Barghouti.

Speaking to HARDtalk’s Stephen Sackur, Mr Barghouti said that Israeli settler attacks on villages in the West Bank had left Palestinians dead.

“What do we see, Israeli settlers attacking us, terrorising us, shooting people and killing them,” said Mr Barghouti.

Mr Barghouti said the Palestinian Authority – which governs the West Bank – was too passive and had failed to unify Palestinians.

However he insisted that if there were free Palestinian elections, neither Hamas or Fatah would win an absolute majority – leaving third parties like his to play king-maker.

But the doctor and former presidential candidate was optimistic that a peaceful solution could one day be found.
But it could not happen if all of the Israel-Palestine region was exclusive to only Jewish people – both groups would have to live together.

“If we remove that racism, we can easily live and coexist with each other as we did before the rise of the Zionist movement.”
