Why is Cookham Bridge closed to vehicles for 20 weeks?
If your commute involves driving across Cookham Bridge, you’ll find yourself diverted by more than eight miles for the next 20 weeks.
The long-awaited Cookham Bridge closure has started, which means motor vehicles won’t be able to cross from between Cookham and Bourne End, though pedestrians can still get across.
The diversion is massive – more than eight miles, which would take an extra 25 minutes without traffic. Local businesses are saying that the closure is going to have a huge effect.
