African Climate Summit: 'Release funds for adaptation'

As the Africa Climate Summit draws to a close in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, delegates and activists have been taking stock of what the conference has achieved.

This is the first summit of its kind held on sub-Saharan African soil to discuss challenges and solutions faced by Africa in responding to climate change.

The continent accounts for just 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions yet it suffers some of the worst effects of rising global temperatures.

Climate activist Edwin Namakanga from Uganda gave Newsday his perspective.

"What I want to see coming out from this African Climate Summit is putting into into operation the loss and damage finance facility to that we can be able to adapt to the climate change impacts that we are experiencing already."

"People are starving because of prolonged drought... catastrophic droughts... all of this is affecting livelihoods of people."
