Make A Difference Awards 2023: “Great Neighbour”
Meet the four finalists in our Great Neighbour category.
The four finalists in the 91ȱ Essex Make A Difference Awards 2023 “Great Neighbour” category are (in alphabetical order):
Sandra Andrews from Southend-on-Sea, nominated by her neighbour Simon Murdoch. Simon describes Sandra as “my guardian angel” and a good loyal friend to talk to, as well as someone who helps get his shopping and prescriptions for him.
Mary Maskell from Great Bentley, nominated by family friend and goddaughter Anna. Mary is “an incredible human who is there for every person in the village”, according to Anna, who says the list of “little things” that Mary does for neighbours without thinking could go on forever!
Veronica Riches, nominated by neighbour Sue Thomas. Veronica is described as “a most extraordinary person and a five-star asset to the community” by Sue, who adds that in addition to her work with Guides and Brownies, Veronica “quietly, and so very humbly, makes a difference” to so many people’s lives.
John Steadman, nominated by fellow Earls Colne resident Emma Wilkin. Emma says that John is, quite simply, “Mr Earls Colne” due to his incredible passion for local history. Emma says that John “never walks past anyone without saying hello” and “will help anyone with anything at any time”.
The four finalists will find out if they have won at the 91ȱ Essex Make A Difference Awards ceremony on 21 September 2023. Good luck!
