'It's not just the addict that goes through it, it's the family as a whole.'
Whether it be drugs or alcohol, addiction can of course, destroy families and communities. An outreach project in Belfast called The People's Kitchen says the number of drug's related deaths in Northern Ireland is at crisis point and they're calling for the government to do more. The most up-to-date government figures show 212 people died in 2021 - the second highest on record.
For Lisa Arthurs from North Belfast drugs have turned her family upside down. In 2020 her 18 year old daugher died. Her son who started taking drugs at the age of 14 didn't stop despite the horror of his sister's death. Lisa says she now fears for his life but there isn't anything she can do. Lisa's been speaking to our reporter Helen Jones: - some of you might find the issues discussed upsetting.
