Dutch historian discovers medieval golden treasure trove
A hoard of gold jewellery, some 1,000 years old, and 39 small silver coins, dating from 200 years later, have been discovered in the Netherlands.
Historian Lorenzo Ruijter discovered the hoard and said he "was shaking with excitement, it was a real special feeling," when he came across it.
He has been searching for buried things in the region he lives since childhood, going out once a week or so. Ten years later he has made this exciting discovery. He says he's not interested in the value, just the story behind it as it was probably owned by a count or someone important. He say's it's important that it's seen by everyone.
The medieval treasure has now gone on display in the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden under Lorenzo's name.
