'It was very emotional for me and my sister to watch'

A new movie is coming to Netflix telling the life of Yusra Mardini.

If you don't know, Yusra was a Syrian refugee, who fled the war with her sister Sara to find a new home in Germany, so that she could continue her dream to swim at the Olympics.

Their story is incredible, particularly when you learn that the pair were forced to swim part of their journey across the sea from Turkey to Greece, when it became clear their small dinghy had far too many refugees to hold the weight.

Just a year later, Yusra competed at the Rio Olympics, before training again to compete at the 2020 games in Tokyo.

Her sister though, returned to Greece to help refugees making the same journey. But she is currently awaiting trial on people smuggling charges.

The film is called The Swimmers, and I had the honour of speaking to Yusra about it.

She told Jack Rafferty about those initial conversations about turning her life story into a movie...
