Yusra Mardini, Syrian swimmer and refugee, towed a dinghy to safety
A new film portrays swimmer Yusra Mardini’s journey out of Syria. Yusra and her sister Sarah swam for over three hours in the Aegean Sea, pulling a dinghy with 20 fellow refugees to safety when the engine cut out. She went on to compete for the Refugee Olympic Athletes Team at Rio 2016. Yusra, and Nathalie Issa, the actor who played her, spoke to Today about the new film ‘The Swimmers’ that tells her story.
