Watch the series before criticising, says The Crown’s historical consultant
Robert Lacey has said dramatic licence is used to ‘convey a larger truth’
The fifth series of Netflix’s The Crown was released on Wednesday. Airing two months after Queen Elizabeth II's death, the new series focuses on a turbulent decade for the royals in the 1990s. There has been criticism of the series, prompting Netflix to add a disclaimer to its marketing saying the show is a "fictional dramatisation", "inspired by real-life events".
Today’s Mishal Husain speaks to Robert Lacey, historical consultant on The Crown and author of many books on royalty, including two biographies of the late Queen.
