Letters from the Partition dating back to 1943 discovered in Reading
Shahab Mufti told Vernon the story of what happened to his family during the Partition of British India. He found letters between his father and grandfather dating back to 1943 and are written in both English and Urdu.
Rough translation of letter pictured from Shahab:
The letter in the picture is the final letter written by my grandfather from Haryana to my dad in Delhi. In this letter he asked him to send my mother back to Haryana to celebrate Eid with someone, and acknowledged that my dad is now leaving for Pakistan. He said that the distance will now increase and travel will become longer, and so prayed that we might see each other again and if not then tons of blessing for long life and healthy and obedient children.
