Sir Ian McKellen speaks to Today
Sir Ian McKellen on bringing his Hamlet to the Edinburgh Fringe
This year's Edinburgh Festival sees celebrated actor Sir Ian McKellen make his return as Hamlet 鈥 a part he first performed in 1971 鈥 for the third time in his colourful 60-year-career. But in a break from tradition, this production of Shakespeare's tragedy will see Sir Ian sharing the starring role with ballet dancer Johan Christiansen under the direction of choreographer Peter Schaufuss. Speaking to Today鈥檚 Nick Robinson, the 83-year-old actor explains that this latest performance is an experiment in various ways of telling a story, not just using words, but also 鈥渢hrough movement, dance and music.鈥
