Record temperatures lead to fires across the UK

Temperatures topped 40 degrees in southern England

We are used to watching images of wild fires abroad but not here in the UK. Yesterday as temperatures in England reached record highs of 40 degrees, wildfires hit parts of the country and devastated people鈥檚 homes and belongings. On the programme today speaking to Nick Robinson was Tim Stock, his home in Wennington in Havering was destroyed by a fire that started next door. Also on the programme was London Mayor Sadiq Khan who said yesterday was the city鈥檚 fire service鈥檚 busiest day since World War Two. Katya Adler also spoke with Phil Garrigan who鈥檚 the chief fire officer for Merseyside and is leading the National Fire Chief Council's national resilience group for major incidents.
