‘Beryl: In Search of Britain’s Greatest Athlete’ by Jeremy Wilson

Beryl Burton is the woman who dominated the male cycling scene for decades...

Beryl Burton was a champion cyclist who led the way for women's sport in the 1950s through to the mid-1980s. She dominated the cycling scene for many years as well as being an inspiration to women today.

Beryl broke cycling records in a time when men dominated sport, however, she went unnoticed despite establishing records that are comparable to those of today's top cyclists and athletes.

Today's Mishal Husain spoke with the actor Maxine Peake who wrote and starred in a drama about Beryl Burton after reading about her, and Jeremy Wilson, the Telegraph's chief sports correspondent, who became interested in Beryl’s inspirational story, they will discuss his new book, 'Beryl: In Search of Britain's Greatest Athlete.'
