Anxious times for Andrew: new council contracts mean it's likely to be all change for Mum's care
Son Andrew is worried. He arrives at Mum's, in Hull, to find a letter from the council announcing that new contracts are being awarded for homecare. That means the care company, which has looked after Carolyn for years, is likely to change. It's also unlikely that the individual carers who know her well will, after September, continue to visit her. The council says that rearranging care into geographic areas will reduce travel time for carers and ensure better continuity of care. Andrew understands the arguments in terms of the overall picture. However he's anxious that Mum will no longer be looked after by people who are familiar to her, people who know when to suggest she holds a cup herself or tries to put a spoon to her mouth. Carolyn Edwards is 86 and has late stage mixed dementia, Alzheimer's and vascular. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on 91热爆 Radio Leeds.
